International Final Qualifying (IFQ)
International Final Qualifying (IFQ) events for The Open Championship were introduced in 2004 and are held on five continents to give more players from around the world the chance to gain direct entry into golf’s oldest championship.
IFQ events for The 2009 Open at Turnberry will be as follows:
IFQ — Africa: 3-4 February 2009, Royal Durban Golf Club, Durban, South Africa
IFQ — Australasia: 10 February 2009, Kingston Heath Golf Club, Melbourne, Australia

Field size: Maximum 78 players.
Eligibility: |
(1) Past Open Champions. |
| (2) Any player with OWGR pointage at date of entry. A place in the starting field of IFQ will be subject to OWGR ranking on the closing date. | |
| (3) Anyone who played in the 2008 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. |
8 players will qualify directly into The Open Championship.
AN ELIGIBLE PLAYER MAY PLAY IN ONLY ONE OF THE FIVE INTERNATIONAL FINAL QUALIFYING EVENTS OR ALTERNATIVELY HE MAY PLAY IN LOCAL FINAL QUALIFYING.
